Meprogesic codeine directions

Meprogesic Codeine tablets have analgesic, antipyretic and mild tranquilizing properties. Meprogesic Codeine is used for the symptomatic relief of mild to moderate pain associated with tension.

Meprogesic Codeine tablets contain tartrazine which may cause allergic-type reactions in certain individuals. The overall incidence of tartrazine sensitivity is low, it is however, frequently seen in patients who also have aspirin sensitivity.

The usual adult dosage of Meprogesic Codeine, is 2 tablets three times per day, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not exceed six tablets per day.

Paracetamol may cause sensitivity reactions resulting in reversible skin rash or blood disorders.

Meprobamate may cause:
- Ataxia;

- Dizziness;
- Drowsiness;
- Nausea;
- Paradoxical excitement;
- Paraesthesia;
- Vomiting;

Meprogesic may cause:
- Confusion;

- Vomiting;

Consult your doctor if no relief is obtained with the recommended dosage. Do not use Meprogesic Codeine continuously for longer than ten days without consulting your doctor.

Meprobamate may lower the tolerance to alcohol and other depressants of the central nervous system.

Meprogesic should be used in extreme caution by individuals taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping such treatment. The depressant effect may be enhanced by depressants of the central nervous system such as alcohol, anaesthetics, hypnotics and sedatives, tricyclic antidepressants, and phenothiazines.

Administration of Meprogesic during labour may cause respiratory depression in the new-born infant.
