Xigris Indications
Brand name for drotrecogin alfa, Xiagris is a very powerful a ntithrombotic drug. Basically a form of natural enzyme called Activated Protein C, Xiagris is a result of hard human efforts. One of the best answers to Sepsis, Xigris is well known for treatment of fatal blood infections and organ failures resulting from this. This wonder drug reduces clotting of blood within blood vessels. By cutting down the risks of hypotension, poor oxygenation, elevated creatinine, and derangement in the microvasculature, Xigris has been contributing considerably in lowering the mortality rate in US. Xiagris emerged as the best solution to Sepsis when anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory modes of treatment failed. The first drug to have received FDA approval for the treatment of Sepsis, Xigris is a big solace to many sufferers.
Xigris Contraindications
Xigris may not work in equal proportions for one and all. Let your doctor know if you are already suffering from the following disorders:
- Thrombocytopenia;
- Stroke;
- Liver disease;
- Injury of any kind;
- Blood disease or a history of unusual bleeding;
- Bleeding, disease, injury or tumor relating to brain;
- Aneurysm in the head;
Let your doctor know if you have undergone surgery or spinal anesthesia very recently as there is an associated risk of heavy bleeding in such cases. Confide to the doctor if you are allergic to Xigris. So far no studies have been performed on pregnant species. Also there is no clue as to whether Xigris passes on to breast milk or not. However, to be on the safer side, always consult your doctor before taking Xigris during pregnancy or while breast-feeding.
Tested on older adults, Xigris have not shown any harsh results. No tests have been made on children, though. Xigris may not work in harmony with every other drug. Inform your doctor before hand if you are already taking any of the following drugs:
- Ticlid;
- Streptase;
- Reopro;
- Plavix;
- Lovenox;
- Heparin;
- Coumadin;
- Aspirin;
- Activase;
- Abbokinase;
Xigris Side Effects
There is no point doubting the effectiveness of Xigris. However, intake of Xigris may lead to the occurrence of serious side effects. Rush to your doctor if you experience any of the following: D iarrhea with blood, abdominal pain, black stool, brown vomit, pink or red tinge in urine, partial weakness, altered vision, haltered speech, and logical confusion.
Less harmful and common side effects of Xigris include bleeding. However, Xigris can also cause allergic reactions like inflammation, breathing trouble, skin rash etc.
Xigris Overdose
So far no cases of Xigris overdose with life threatening consequences have been reported. However, prevention is always better than cure. Avoid taking double dose and rush to a doctor immediately after you realize that you have taken a double dose or experience normal overdose symptoms like severe bleeding problems. If the doctor is not available, alternatively, you can get in touch with the local poison control center for immediate medical aid.
Missed dose of Xigris may not be too harmful. In case of missed dose contact your attending physician for a new schedule of dosage.
