Wysolone.

 Wysolone information

Wysolone Indications

In the case of an adrenocortical deficiency, the most common replacement therapy is based on cortisone and hydrocortisone (these two agents are usually reffered to as glucocorticoids); this is the result of the fact that these agents present the property of retaining salt. Wysolone is one of the synthetic glucocorticoids which is usually indicated as an immunosuppressant agent or an anti-inflammatory agent. However, Wysolone alone does not prove efficient in the treatment of adrenocortical insufficiency as it only presents a minimum level of mineralocorticoid properties. In this situation, if the doctor recommends you a treatment based on Wysolone, it is quite possible that he will also prescribe you a concomitant mineral corticoid therapy.
As presented above, Wysolone is usually indicated for the treatment of adrenocortical insufficiency. However, the important thing which should be mentioned is the fact that Wysolone presents only half of the mineralocorticoid activity of cortisone and hydrocortisone, two agents that are known for the various metabolic effects which they cause. For example, they modify the immunity of the body and the reaction of the body to different stimuli. On the other hand, Wysolone is indicated as the main medical product in the treatment of a series of diseases. The most common ones include endocrine disorders, rheumatic disorders (such as psoriatic arthritis), collagen diseases (such as rheumatic carditis, polymyositis), dermatologic diseases (such as exfoliative dermatitis, pemphigus, mycosis fungoides), severe psoriasis) and allergic states.

Wysolone Contraindications

In the case of those patients who are indicated Wysolone or other glucocorticoids and who are exposed to a high level stress situation, the doctor may recommend the intake of an increased dose of steroids. However, one important thing which should be known about the administration of Wysolone is the fact that it may mask the first signs and symptoms of an infection and it may also decrease the resistance of the body to that infection. In the case of disseminated tuberculosis or fulminating tuberculosis, the dosage of Wysolone should be decreased if the patient is being administrated Wysolone in association with another antituberculous regimen.

Wysolone Intake Guidelines

First of all, patients should be aware of the fact that the administration of Wysolone must be individualized for each patient; the doctor has to establish the dose, taking into consideration the stage of the disease, the patient's general health condition and the possible response to the treatment. Furthermore, a permanent and careful monitoring of the dosage of Wysolone is absolutely necessary. There are certain situations in which an adjustment of the dosage is required: when the doctor notices an exacerbation of the disease, a remission of the disease or the appearance of other medical conditions and complications, such as infections, injuries or surgeries.

Wysolone Dosage

The initial dosage of Wysolone can vary a lot from a patient to another; however, the initial dosage is usually situated in the interval between 5 mg to 50 mg. If a favorable response is observed from the patient, the doctor will gradually decrease the dosage of Wysolone. In the case of a severe complication, if the patient does not respond to conventional therapy, the doctor has to administrate him a high level of Wysolone (40 mg to 70 mg) for 3 to 5 days. Another exception in what concerns the administration of Wysolone is reported in the case of those patients who suffer from multiple sclerosis; in this case the average dosage is of 200 mg daily.

Wysolone Overdose

If we take into consideration the fact that the dosage of Wysolone differs a lot from a patient to another, than it is quite understandable why no severe complications will arise if someone uses a higher level of Wysolone. However, if the quantity is quite massive, than the patient should consult a doctor as soon as possible and he should receive symptomatic supportive care. If the patient does not react well, he should be kept under medical observation for a couple of days. On the other hand, if an infection develops as the result of an overdose of Wysolone, the sufferer may need vigorous therapy based on a wide variety of antibiotics.

Wysolone Missed Dose

No serious complications or other problems have been reported in the case of those patients who do not follow exactly the recommended dosage of Wysolone. If they only miss one dose of Wysolone, they are advised to continue the regular administration, without using a double dose of the drug. However, if the patient notices the appearance and development of some signs and symptoms, he should consult a doctor from the nearest medical centre, his personal health care provider or at least a pharmacist.

Wysolone Side Effects

The studies which have been conducted on animals shows that the usage of Wysolone for a long period of time may lead to the appearance and development of some serious mutagenic and carcinogenic complications. In the case of men, the usage of Wysolone can lead to a decrease of the number of spermatoza and in the case of women it can cause irregularities of the normal menstrual cycle. In addition to this, women who are using this medical agent should know that the gluocorticoids can cut through the placenta. This means that the unborn baby will be affected. Wysolone Drug Reactions There are certain drugs which may change the results which are expected from the administration of Wysolone. The most common ones are represented by Phenytoin, ephedrine, barbiturates and Rifampin; these are known to increase the effect of Wysolone, a process which may result in a lowered physiologic activity. On the other hand, a concomitant administration of Wysolone and ulcerogenic drugs may result in an increased risk of the appearance of a gastrointestinal ulceration.
