Stiemycin.

 Stiemycin information

Stiemycin Indications

Stiemycin is an alcoholic solution based on Erythromycin - a macrolide antibiotic commonly employed in the treatment of bacterial infections. Stiemycin is designed to treat acne, and does so by attacking a certain type of bacteria that causes acne - Propionibacterium acnes. More specifically, Stiemycin blocks the protein production in the bacterial organisms, hindering their growth and replication. This causes the bacteria to stop multiplying, and while not destroying the bacterial agents directly, these will either die or be destroyed by the organism's immune system.
Stiemycin is mainly indicated in the treatment of acne vulgaris. While this is the intended purpose of Stiemycin, in practice there may be other uses for this medical preparation - either as monotherapy or in combination with other pharmaceutical agents. You may consult with your personal health care professional if you are unsure why you have been indicated a therapy course with Stiemycin. Also, if you would like to obtain further information on the possible uses of Stiemycin, a pharmacist or a dermatologist may assist you by providing you with additional details.

Stiemycin Contraindications

Stiemycin is a medicinal preparation intended for external use only. This solution may not be administered orally or in any way other than topical applications. You should avoid contact with the eyes or inside of the nose or mouth at all times. If you accidentally happen to get any Stiemycin solution on these areas you should immediately wash it away with warm water.
You should not employ Stiemycin if you are hypersensitive to Erythromycin or to any of the inactive ingredients of this pharmaceutical product. If you are allergic to any of the excipients of this solution you should consult with your personal physician in order to obtain a proper alternate method of therapy for your condition.
Stiemycin should be safe for use during pregnancy and breast feeding. If you are pregnant or if you are a breast-feeding mother, you should check with your personal doctor in order to establish the possible risks and benefits of the therapy. Usage of Stiemycin on the chest area during breast-feeding should be avoided, in order to prevent the baby from accidentally ingesting any quantity of the product.

Stiemycin Intake Guidelines

In order to properly apply Stiemycin topical solution to the skin, you should first wash the area with warm water and soap, and then tap it dry with a soft towel. If needed, shave any hair present on the area - however as the solution contains alcohol, this should be done at least one hour prior to a Stiemycin application in order to avoid irritation of the skin. Use the recommended quantity of Stiemycin and apply it on the skin - not only on the visible pimples, but on the entire area affected by acne.
You should use the solution for the entire duration of the therapy. Never stop using Stiemycin without your prescriber's consent, as this may not only cause a relapse of the affection, but it may also cause the bacteria to develop a resistance to the antibiotic and thus making the affection harder to treat effectively. If you feel that you should cease using this pharmaceutical product, you should first check with your personal health care specialist.

Stiemycin Dosage

Your dermatologist may provide you with directions regarding the exact number of daily Stiemycin applications, as well as the solution quantity that you should use with each application. Generally, you should use enough medicine to cover the entire acne-affected area with each application - however you should avoid using excessive quantities of this pharmaceutical product or applying the solution too often. You should closely follow your prescriber's indications.

Stiemycin Overdose

Using excessive quantities of any pharmaceutical preparation may cause an overdose with that medicine. An overdose may result in a serious hazard to one's health state, and both short and long term consequences are possible. In severe situations, the patient's life may be at risk as well.
Stiemycin does not pose serious health risks unless it is indicated in massive amounts for prolonged periods of time. However, ingesting Stiemycin may cause severe consequences. If you think you have swallowed even a small quantity of Stiemycin, you should immediately seek medical assistance by contacting your health care provider or the local emergency room.

Stiemycin Missed Dose

You should closely follow your prescriber's indications regarding the recommended number of daily Stiemycin applications. It is best that you set up a strict application schedule, which will help reduce the chances of accidentally forgetting to apply the medication. If you do miss an application, it is best that you use the missed dose as soon as possible - however not if it is almost time for another application of the product. You should not use double doses of Stiemycin to make up for a missed application.

Stiemycin Side Effects

Studies have shown that Stiemycin is generally safe to use and does not cause side effects as long as it is applied according to the dermatologist's specifications. However, rare occurrences of skin irritation or skin dryness are possible. More severe adverse reactions have also been reported - typically allergic reactions, caused by hypersensitivity to one of the excipients of the solution. If at any point during your Stiemycin therapy course you begin to experience any unwanted, bothersome symptoms it is best that you consult with your personal health care specialist.

Stiemycin Interactions

Stiemycin is not expected to affect or be affected by other drugs and medicines that are taken orally or through injections. However, accidental reactions have been known to occur when the solution is indicated on the same area of skin as other topical agents. In some cases, interactions may also occur with cosmetic products or herbal remedies that are applied on the affected area of skin.
